E-learning helps entrepreneurs be good employers

For entrepreneurs considering working with staff and for employers without an HR background, the e-learning 'Help, ik ben werkgever' ('Help, I am an employer') has been available since 1 November. Over 100 entrepreneurs have registered for the e-learning. Meanwhile, the first participants have gone through the e-learning. Registration is free and can be done via the Werkgeverslijn website.

Getting started being a good employer
There is quite a lot involved in being a good employer, says advisor Diana Eleveld of the Werkgeverslijn. Different forms of employment entail different risks and costs. It is good to be aware of these so you can make a considered choice.

The online course has a practical and informative approach. Although some participants indicate in the e-learning evaluation that they perceive the level as 'simple,' initial results from participants show that there are misconceptions about certain topics. For example, 30% of participants think that the statement' wage costs of own employees always fall below the wage costs of a temporary worker' is incorrect.

'Even for employers without an HR background, it is useful to go through the e-learning,' says Eleveld. "It only takes 1.5 hours of your time, and afterwards, you will know whether the knowledge you have about being an employer is actually correct or not. As many as 53% of the e-learning participants, for example, are under the impression that as a business owner, you are not liable if the temporary worker is underpaid by an employment agency. They do not realize that they are informally the employer of temporary workers and can, therefore, also be held liable in case of improper treatment of the temporary workers. Should you work with a temp agency, we advise you to assess the agency properly and critically. You can find out how to do that on this page."

Sign up for e-learning
The e-learning is still available until 30 November. Registration is free, and the first 50 participants who complete the e-learning will receive a gift by post. For more information and registration, visit www.werkgeverslijn.nl/onlinecursus.
