50 varieties from ornamental growers tested in lower-temperature cultivation

To help ornamental growers change their cultivation strategies in times of energy crisis, the Ornamental Horticulture Research Centre in Destelbergen is currently carrying out trials with different temperature regimes. Some varieties seem to thrive in a more moderate climate, writes VILT in a report from the Florall ornamental plant show in Waregem. The fair was held last week, and inflation was also much discussed.

The trial started last autumn. "We made four greenhouses available in which we study plant behavior with four different temperature regimes (8,10,13, and 16 degrees)," says researcher Marc Vissers. A dozen ornamental growers, including Frank De Mol, signed up for the trial and made a total of 50 varieties available.
