Root Behaviour – From Propagation to the Field
A plants initial growth environment, whether it be a tray, container or field, will have significant impact on root quality well beyond propagation, affecting root structure, form and overall plant performance well into maturity. Where there are many products and approaches designed to enhance root growth; it is important to understand the basic principles of root behavior so as to inform proper management and maintenance.
Air pruning harnesses a plants inherent growth mechanisms to manage and maximize root growth. In this session, we will consider the use of air pruning with respect to the development of high quality root systems in woody perennials, highlighting key management features including growing media selection and management, watering and transplanting and upsizing across a plants lifecycle.
