New Instagram series sheds light on horticulture in Ontario’s ‘sun parlour’

Anyone who works in horticulture will tell you it’s a warm, welcoming industry to be in. Especially for those living and working in southern Ontario’s ‘sun parlour’ - the greenhouse capital of North America. At A.M.A. Horticulture, we have the privilege of collaborating with an amazing community of growers and garden centres in Kingsville and Leamington. We want people to see and feel what life is like in our corner of the horticulture industry. That’s why we’re launching Our Place in the Sun, a new creative photography series that sheds light on daily life at A.M.A. and offers a glimpse of the horticulture scene in the sun parlour.

“Our community is a horticultural heartland, with more greenhouse acreage than any other region in North America. If you want to be on the cutting-edge of horticulture, you’ll want to spend some time down in our neck of the woods,” says Connie Bradt, managing director of A.M.A. Horticulture.

“Our region is far from urban centres like Toronto, and drawing talent down this way can be a challenge. People need to know what we have here. We wanted to do something that would give people a behind-the-scenes look to promote our region and our industry to the next generation of talent.”

The series, led by A.M.A.’s talented in-house photographer and graphic designer Lisa Janzen, focuses on visual storytelling. “We’ve done a lot of article writing and storytelling in recent years, but they say a picture is worth a thousand words, right?” says Lisa. “We’re looking forward to trying something new and capturing glimpses of life with the camera.”

Our Place in the Sun will run every other Wednesday exclusively on the company’s Instagram account. Follow the series at @amahort or search the hashtag #AMAplaceinthesun.
