Organic Rose Nursery de Bierkreek, the Netherlands, was surprised by a question from the garden service of The Peace Palace in The Hague in 2022. Whether they could assist them with the construction of a new rose garden. After thorough and expert preparation, the rosarium has just been planted and is ready for a colourful season.
Design rosary
It soon turned out that making the 'design' was not that challenging: after all, it already existed; the colour and location were already fixed. The request was mainly for planting with new, strong healthy varieties, preferably grown organically. After several visits and advice, the nursery was awarded the contract in September 2022.
Start in November 2022
In November/December 2022, the roses were potted up in reused six-litre pots, with maximum space for the root ball. And potted in organic potting soil with fertile soil life. The choice of potted roses was a deliberate one, because it gives the plants a head start. The robust root ball contains all the good fungi and soil life necessary for healthy and vigorous growth.
Realisation in May 2023
The time came at the beginning of May: nearly 2,500 potted roses set off for The Hague. In just a few days, the rosarium was planted and looks very different! Eventually, the edging of the paths and the hedges will finish it off, but soon the first organically grown roses will bloom in the rosarium of the Peace Palace in The Hague.
