Chrysanthemum Bonita Orange and Alstroemeria Florentina Selected Best in Class by American Floral Industry Royal Van Zanten takes home two 'Best in Class' awards.
Bonita Orange, a fresh-looking Chrysanthemum, has won a blue ribbon as well as the award for 'Best in Class.' Besides Bonita, Alstroemeria Florentina, a large lavender Alstroemeria, won a blue ribbon and the title 'Best in Class' in the outstanding varieties competition, "Absolutely a great compliment for our breeding activities."
The competition is held yearly during the annual convention of the Society of American Florists. The event brings together leading members of the floral industry in Phoenix, Arizona: September 7-9
Manager of Marketing & Business Development Rob van der Helm said, "Last year we had a great success with one variety as best in class and 7 ribbons. This year, we are very happy with even two varieties that are best in class. Our breeding efforts paid off, and we are sure that we will surprise you again next year with new flowers that will steal the show."
The outstanding varieties competition judges varieties for their color and commercial appeal, stem and foliage, bloom form, consistency, quality, free from defect or disease, and overall quality/presentation. Only varieties that are currently available on the commercial market are eligible to compete.
