Tuinbranche Nederland presents 2024 garden trends

Tuinbranche Nederland presents the three garden trends of 2024: Viva la Vida, Gentle Paradox and Meaningful Earth. They show that relaxation and enjoyment go hand in hand with sustainability. Get inspired and turn your garden into a green and healthy living environment for people and animals. You will find practical advice at the so-called Groen Klimaatplein at various garden centers in the Netherlands and online at

Long live life
The cheerful garden trend 'Viva La Vida' is all about celebrating life full of passion and color. The warm color palette, including pink, red, orange, and yellow, creates a subtle tropical and Mediterranean atmosphere. Garden furniture made of wood or woven wicker is combined with colorful garden cushions with fringes and tassels. This turns your own garden into a summer holiday paradise where you can escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life but can also throw a party. Spend quality time with friends and family at a long dining table. The plants create an intimate atmosphere, and butterflies and buzzing bees increase the summer feeling: Viva la Vida!

Hard and soft
Although the 'Gentle Paradox' trend shows striking contrasts, the garden looks friendly and dreamy. Hard materials are given a soft touch by using calm pastel colors. Round and oval shapes reminiscent of pebbles or stones conquer the garden, for example, as water ornaments. The contrast is also repeated in the planting by combining robust plants with soft, swaying ornamental grasses and summer flowers in pastel colors. The latter enhances the dreamy image and makes the garden a place to relax, let the stress melt away, and recharge your batteries.

Rugged and rustic
Wilderness and natural gardening will continue to dominate in 2024. The 'Meaningful Earth' trend places even more emphasis on the earth as a symbol of fertility, making a connection to the past. This gives the peaceful feeling of being connected to the roots of our culture. The garden has a rough and rugged look with shades of brown in the starring role. A gravel path is interrupted by robust wooden boulders, and large, rough rocks are also given a place in the garden. The natural borders seem to have been created randomly. Plant combinations with ornamental grasses reinforce this character. Corten steel planters with a beautiful rust-brown color fit perfectly into this garden trend, as does a round (fire) bowl that has been transformed into a mini pond with aquatic plants.

Groen Klimaatplein
In the new 2024 garden trends, climate resilience forms the basis. Together with municipalities and water boards, Tuinbranche Nederland has developed the so-called Groen Klimaatplein. This can be found at some 60 garden centers in the Netherlands. You will find smart products and plenty of inspiration to design or adapt your own garden to be climate-proof. Fixed components are constructing green roofs, water management in the garden, reducing paving, and stimulating biodiversity. More information, including an overview of participating garden centers and subsidy opportunities per municipality, can be found at
