"Tulip gall mite doesn't go down without a fight"

It is one of the most studied pests in bulb cultivation: the tulip gall mite. Especially in the 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s, numerous crop protection products and methods were tested and tried to control this pest. Much of that research was carried out by former LBO/PPO researcher Cor Conijn (70). Although he has been retired for several years, he still follows the sector - especially when it comes to diseases and pests. Bloembollen Koerier spoke to him about the tulip gall mite. "It's a very crafty and tricky critter; it doesn't go down without a fight," he said.
