With the increasing use of different raw materials, it's crucial to maintain a firm grip on the production of substrates. Lightweight materials like wood fiber and heavy ones like compost behave differently in the substrate. Mixing these raw materials can impact factors like nutrient levels and air content, which in turn have implications for cultivation.
Hans Verhagen from RHP is currently conducting a pilot study at substrate manufacturer Bol as part of a collective research program by RHP itself. In this research, RHP is testing calculation models and looks for areas where improvements can be made in the mixing process. To achieve that, they have closely monitored production for three weeks, with extensive measurements of all incoming raw materials and outgoing mixes.
