Australia: Madeleine Wilson makes a career change into a horticulture apprenticeship at 38

Madeleine Wilson has made a career shift, leaving behind her indoor office job for an apprenticeship in the colorful world of horticulture at the Botanic Gardens of Sydney in New South Wales, Australia.

"For years, I've dreamed of working with plants, and now I've finally turned that dream into reality," Ms Wilson said.

However, leaping into a new career comes with its challenges. On top of a return to study and a new work environment in the Royal Botanic Garden in Sydney, Australia, Madeleine and her family have had to adjust to life on an apprentice's salary.

Madeleine's dedication has been awarded a Bert Evans Apprentice Scholarship that recognizes her vocational skills and positive attitude and offers financial support during her apprenticeship.

Minister for Skills, TAFE and Tertiary Education Steve Whan said, "This initiative upholds the legacy of Bert Evans, who was a passionate advocate for vocational education as a means to success, and we are proud to continue his mission."

"Madeline's desire for a long-sought-after outdoor work career change with plants demonstrates that career aspirations can flourish at any age."
