Mystery swings around Flora greenhouse

It was an early morning at Salad Days Produce in Flora, MS, and the greenhouse was humming with the sound of clippers snipping through rows of fresh lettuce. The harvest crew settled into their routine when—BAM!—a loud, unexpected bang echoed through the air, rattling the quiet morning. The startled crew looked up. Investigation learned that a golf ball crashed into the greenhouse roof at a velocity that's enough to puncture the top layer of plastic, landing with precision in the gutter between two houses. Now the company wonders what happened.

Salad Days Produce, a family-owned business known for its high-quality lettuce grown in an 18,000 sq ft greenhouse, is left with one question: Where did this golf ball come from? The mystery deepens when they examine the ball—it doesn't look freshly cleaned, and no golf club seems to be in the vicinity.

"Highly unlikely anyone was hitting balls at 7:30 am on Monday in cold, wet weather, so where did it come from?" they posted on social media, inviting theories from the public.

Responses flooded in, with some offering plausible—and wildly imaginative—explanations. One person speculated: "I don't see someone hitting that ball high enough to break through that plastic. Drop from an airplane is my guess." Another suggested, "Maybe a hawk thought it was another bird's egg and had it flying over and dropped it."

While no one has yet cracked the case, it's safe to say that Salad Days Produce is no longer just growing lettuce—they're cultivating a good mystery. Who knew that Mondays in Flora could be so… swinging?
