Lisianthus's market is increasing in China.

Lisianthus is a very popular cut flower worldwide. In China, it is one of the top five cut flowers, and production areas are expanding. In this article, Mrs.Xiong from Nessen shares her market insights about Lisianthus in China.

Nessen was founded in 2003 and is a large Lisianthus young plant and cut flower grower in China. "We occupy 50% of the market share of Lisianthus in Yunnan, China. We have 2 farms, one in Kaiyuan, and another in Songming, both of them are in Yunnan, the southwest of China. In our Songming farm, we have a 40,800㎡ nursery, a 4,896㎡ trial greenhouse, and a 47,000 ㎡ cultivation greenhouse which can produce 100 million high-quality Lisianthus young plants annually."

Lisianthus flowers come in a variety of vibrant colors. In China, white is the most popular, making up 50% of the total stems. Following white, pink accounts for 15%, champagne 12%, and green 11%. The remaining colors collectively make up around 12% of the market share.

The double-flowered standard (Rose type) is more favored in the market, she explains "One key reason is its higher yield compared to large-flowered and single-flowered varieties. Additionally, it boasts a longer vase life, making it more appealing to buyers. In contrast, single-flowered Lisianthus has a limited market in China, partly because it is highly susceptible to damage during transportation."

Yunnan is a key region for Lisianthus cultivation, with a flowering period extending from July to May of the following year. "The estimated annual production reaches around 500 million stems, and this number continues to grow. A notable trend is the increasing export of Lisianthus to international markets, including Dubai, the United States, and Australia. Dounan frequently attracts foreign buyers seeking high-quality flowers. Given these developments, there is strong reason to believe that both the cultivation area and market demand for Lisianthus will continue to expand in the future."
