From Feburay 26 to 28, Jan Spek Rozen, together with other breeders presented their vareities at "Rose Breeders Shopping Mall for Rose Growers" at Nini Farm in Naivasha, Kenya. According to Erik Spek of Jan Spek Roses, it was a success.
Steve Outram, General Manager Africa for Jan Spek Roses
"They were great days, particularly on the second and third days, when we saw a strong turnout. Over the course of the three days, we welcomed more than 20 greenhouse rose growers, from both large and smaller companies. We even had visitors the week prior. Last year marked the first year of this joint initiative, and it's clear that grower interest is steadily growing."
Satisfied growers
"The atmosphere was great," Erik continues. "The sun was shining, the mood among the growers was upbeat, and everyone arrived with a smile. The success of Valentine's Day probably contributed, as growers were happy with their sales results Among the four rose breeders, we provided snacks and drinks, which were much appreciated given the warm temperatures."
Mont Royal®
In addition to the well-known varieties from Jan Spek Roses, the latest 2022 codes/varieties were also showcased. "We saw a lot of interest in Mont Royal®, a promising white rose that's on the brink of a breakthrough. Musica® is also attracting attention for large-scale planting. Additionally, the Garden Special Sprays and the Garden Special series continue to be very popular," Erik says. "Growers are expressing interest in testing several new varieties at the Open Days, which is a promising sign for the future."
Musica® and Mont Royal®
