Several Dutch growers receive royal honor

On Friday, April 25, several Dutch growers received a royal honor. Who? We listed them below.

Tomato grower Leo van der Lans received a royal honor for his contributions to the local FC, but also for his sector-related work as the initiator behind LTO Glaskracht and Harvest House.

Chrysanthemum grower Frans van Dijk has been actively involved in the cycling community and since 1996, he has also been sharing his expertise with the Chrysanthemum Growers Group.

Jan Schulte from Maasdijk was honored in the municipality of Westland. Among other activities, he volunteers at a horticultural company and received a royal honor in recognition of his efforts.

Also Charl Goossens recived a royal honor. Through his company, GOVA, he has become one of the largest laurel nurseries in Europe. He provides opportunities for individuals facing barriers to the labor market while remaining committed to sustainability. Waste from his nursery is creatively repurposed into innovative products, such as the eco-friendly Theelers tea. In recognition of his dedication, he was honored with a national entrepreneurship award in 2023. Beyond his professional work, he is actively engaged in volunteer efforts and served as a council member until just a few years ago.

Thijs Jasperse received a royal honor for his extensive volunteer work, which began in 1977 when he served as chairman and national representative of the Zeeland Christian Rural Youth. In the industry, Thijs is also known for his work with organizations such as Florpartners.

Another recipient is René Nieuwenhuizen has been involved with the Flower Parade Bollenstreek since 1985. In 2000, he introduced the idea of adding more music to the floats, and since 2016, he has served as a board member responsible for the Entertainment portfolio.

And Wijnand Oostveen, the former owner of De Zonnebloem Jonge Planten BV, also recieved a royal honor, in recognition of his volunteer work. As a former grower, he has undertaken numerous volunteer tasks for both the church and choir, ranging from cemetery maintenance to serving on the board. According to those who nominated him, he has been the linchpin of the volunteer efforts, ensuring the smooth restoration of the tower and porch. He is also highly regarded for his contributions to LTO and the Kudelstaart auction, known as a man with a "big social heart."
