Photo report: Dutch Spring Trials

The Dutch Spring Trials – also known as the Pack Trials – are taking place this week, where eight breeders are showcasing the latest novelty assortments to growers, retailers and industry peers. Visitors traveled from as far afield as Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, and Canada, with the majority coming from across Europe, eager to explore the latest developments in pot and bedding plants. Also our colleagues of BPnieuws weer attending the trails and made a photo report.

The eight breeders; Syngenta Flowers, Hem Genetics, ABZ Seeds, Prudac, Benary, and PanAmerican Seed — in collaboration with Takii and Suntory Flowers Europe from Aalsmeer — are showcasing their latest assortments in the far north of the Dutch province of North Holland. Coordinated by Fleuroselect, the event features a vibrant range of innovations: from ornamental pepper and tomato plants to strawberry varieties with cheerful blooms, alongside colorful petunias and abundant flowering sunflowers (Helianthus).

Unlike the upcoming FlowerTrials — a major event taking place in June that brings together nearly all major ornamental breeders — the Spring Trials offer a more in-depth, behind-the-scenes look. Held directly at the breeders' facilities, the focus is on testing, comparing, and evaluating production potential. Hosted directly at the breeders' facilities, the focus is on in-depth evaluation, side-by-side genetic comparisons, and practical insights into production potential. While the FlowerTrials emphasize curated highlights for a broad audience, the Spring Trials allow visitors to examine full product ranges in an open and transparent setting. This focused, professional nature is also why attendance is typically by appointment only.
