With nearly all orchids on the Russian market still imported, the government touts the launch of a domestic facility.
In Yaroslavl, the Gorkunov Group has opened the country's first full-cycle orchid greenhouse. The complex, covering 8 hectares, aims to produce 2.5 million Phalaenopsis orchids annually.
Though the facility uses Russian-made robotics, designed specifically for orchid care, much of the technological foundation still depends on imported systems or designs. The cost of the equipment alone made up half the project's total budget, approximately 1.25 billion rubles.
A second facility is planned in Novosibirsk for 2026, aiming to fully replace imported Phalaenopsis orchids. The company also intends to begin producing cut chrysanthemums in Barnaul.
Other planned flower production projects in Kalmykia, the Far East, and across Russia have been announced, but some of these have been delayed due to the Central Bank's high key interest rate.
