Brazil: How Maringá region geared up for Mother's Day rose boom

Mother's Day was celebrated on May 11th and most of the state's production is concentrated in the Maringá region. Roses are grown in ten municipalities in Paraná (Marialva, Araruna, Sarandi, Mandaguari, Mandaguaçu, Francisco Beltrão, Bituruna, Farol, Maria Helena and Perobal) and in 2023 alone, 265,8 thousand dozens were harvested.

The Maringá region accounts for 66,2% of all state production, with Marialva standing out as the main producer in Paraná. In 2023, its lands produced 100,0 dozens, with gross revenue of R$ 1,7 million, which corresponds to 37,6% of the total. The Campo Mourão region, with Araruna being the second municipality with the species, represents 30,1% of the total, with 80,0 dozens cultivated.

"In Paraná, even though floriculture is still little explored, there is a market heating up in line with what is happening in Brazil, and a boost in business in the markets where the activity is established", states agricultural engineer Paulo Andrade in this week's Agricultural Situation Bulletin, which highlighted roses on the eve of Mother's Day.
