Construction begins for new Amazone Plants greenhouse

On Thursday, October 16, Amazone Plants celebrated a milestone in Honselersdijk, the Netherlands: the first pile was driven for the company's brand-new greenhouse complex. With this 1.6-hectare expansion, located right next to the existing nursery, Amazone Plants will soon grow to a total of around 7.5 hectares. This new phase marks an important step in the company's ongoing professionalization.

Own propagation facility
The new construction will provide space for potting young plants and expanding production of 9 cm anthuriums. On this new site, Amazone Plants will take over the care of its young anthurium cuttings 15 to 16 weeks earlier than before. This not only helps reduce costs but also improves quality and ensures the desired plant traits, such as large blooms, full growth, and glossy green leaves. The 9 cm pot production also fits more naturally into the workflow of the new nursery and can be seamlessly integrated with the automation system used for the 7 cm cuttings.

Focus on sustainability and innovation
Amazone Plants is committed to sustainable growing practices. The new greenhouse will be equipped with LED lighting and three energy screens to keep energy use as efficient as possible. In addition, 300 new solar panels will be installed, bringing the total number to about 800. Thanks to a second geothermal well currently being developed by Aardwarmte Vogelaer, the greenhouses will soon be able to cover roughly 75% of their heating needs with geothermal energy. A new boiler house won't be necessary, as the existing energy system has more than enough capacity. The new site will, however, have its own work and processing area.

Future-proof and quality-oriented
With this expansion, Amazone Plants reinforces its commitment to professionalism, innovation, and sustainability. The new facilities will enable the company to produce high-quality anthuriums in pot sizes of 9, 12, 14, 17, and 21 cm, ensuring both consistent quality and a strong, future-proof product range.
