Kordes Roses introduces new white rose

“We have high expectations for Supernova”

During the Trade Fair Aalsmeer 2025 (November 4–6), breeder Kordes Roses will introduce their new white rose, Supernova. "We have high expectations for Supernova," says Johan Berk of Kordes Roses. "The variety combines excellent cultivation performance with the quality and appearance the market demands."

"From grower to florist – everyone can work well with Supernova," Johan adds. "That makes it a very promising new variety for the white segment."

For growers, Supernova offers high production of healthy, high-quality stems and excellent disease resistance. Wholesalers and exporters benefit from its strong transport qualities and the near absence of damage. Florists will also be pleased with its beautifully opening blooms, delicate fragrance, and long vase life.

Strong and steady demand for white roses
The search for a strong new white rose is always ongoing for all breeders, Johan explains. "After red, white is the most important color, partly because of its use in weddings and funerals. As a result, the demand for white roses is large and stable."

For many years, Kordes has held a leading position with Athena, the most widely grown white rose, produced by many farms in Africa. In South America, Kordes also maintains a strong market share with the cream-colored Mondial. In the Netherlands, however, the market has© Kordes Roses been dominated for over twenty years by Avalanche+. With the pure white Supernova, Kordes now aims to introduce a serious contender. Several growers already have trial plants that are showing promising results.

"The first trial results are very positive," Johan shares. "Supernova shows uniform growth, and the stem quality is excellent."

Years of in-house testing at Kordes also show that Supernova grows easily and is not susceptible to powdery mildew or botrytis. Its trade characteristics are equally favorable: the long-lasting white rose opens slowly and remains free from damage.

"It's precisely this combination of cultivation traits and durability that makes Supernova special," Johan concludes.

Trade Fair Aalsmeer
Supernova will be prominently presented at the Kordes Roses booth 8.24 during the Trade Fair Aalsmeer, from Tuesday, November 4 to Thursday, November 6.
