Operations Manager Organic Farm Barka Oman








Role Summary
The Operations Manager will have overall responsibility for the performance, quality, and growth of the full organic vegetable farming operations. In essence this means efficiently managing each step of the production process from growing, harvesting, packing and dispatch.

As Operations Manager, you’ll achieve and maintain operational efficiency & consistency across all areas of day-to-day farm operations by: shaping and developing a stellar operational team, setting and monitoring standards, planning production and organizing needed resources (machinery, funds, and labor), as well as continually finding opportunities to raise the bar on our performance levels to ensure that we are operationally outstanding in every aspect.

In this role, your goals are to:

  • Raise overall production
  • Maximize yield (kg/acre, kg/person)
  • Keep costs efficient and controlled
  • Raise quality levels
  • Increase produce range

This will involve the following responsibilities:

  • Developing and continually extending your knowledge of vegetable crops
  • Working with the team to manage the full production of crops including:

○ Carrying out daily farm walk arounds and inspections and working with the team to solve pest, disease, and weed control issues

○ Managing, directing, and organizing daily, and weekly production plans, and crop plans

○ Managing of fertilizers, irrigation, and plant protection and cultural practices

○ Overseeing crop trials and experimentations

  • Developing, training, hiring of operations staff
  • Sourcing, and working with suppliers
  • Staying up to date with latest products, inputs, technologies and methods
  • Managing staff performance with regular performance reviews
  • Role modeling and spreading the YUZU culture to raise team cohesiveness and effectiveness
  • Overseeing the farm’s record structure and ensuring record keeping discipline from operations staff across all areas of the operation
  • Ensuring continued compliance with health and safety (HACCP) and organic farming standards (USDA-NOP); managing and preparing for audits for operational certifications
  • Building and maintaining the farms documentation structure including manuals and standard operating procedures (SOPs)
  • Scheduling and managing repairs, maintenance, and replacement of equipment and machinery
  • Ensuring maintenance and health of farm tools and machinery
  • Troubleshooting of quality and operational issues
  • Any tasks related to wider farm and organization mission as appointed by the General Manager

Role requirements:

  • The selected person should fulfill the following minimum requirements:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in an Agriculture related area of study
  • Have excellent written and spoken English
  • 4 years work experience in agriculture ideally in organic vegetable crop growth in hot climates
  • Working knowledge of farm equipment & machinery
  • Driving license
  • Close attention-to-detail with a keen eye for quality control and standards
  • Organized with good workflow and time management
  • Good problem solving ability, with passion to lead solutions and drive change
  • Good working ability with math including percentages and ratios
  • Strong communication, interpersonal and analytical skills
  • Good computer skills including Excel
  • Active interest in organic farming
  • Positive, growth mindset
