Last Tuesday, Jaroma Roses, now part of Sunshine Bouquet, was hit by a hail storm, which is very rare in Colombia. The hail damaged 20 ha of their greenhouses, that are located in the North of Bogota, but fortunately no employees were hurt as it occurred in the afternoon, when most left the farm.
Having such a heavy hail storm is unusual in Colombia, explains former owner Jaime Rodriguez. "Usually, it is on just one spot and now 20 ha have been damaged."
The timing of a hail storm is always bad, but particularly now, as the farm is in the middle of their Mother's Day preparations, one of their most important holidays. Therefore, they need to move as quickly as possible to let the roses flower again and be in time for this holiday.
Last December, Jaroma Roses, located in the North of Bogota went to Sunshine Bouquet, a group of Colombian farms with over 1,000ha of greenhouses.
