Netherlands: Anthura and KeyGene enter long term strategic collaboration in Anthurium and Orchids

Anthura BV and Keygene N.V. announced today that they have entered into a long term strategic collaboration in Anthurium and Orchids breeding. KeyGene is a global leading molecular genetics company devoted to crop innovation. This collaboration is an extension of the successful multiyear service based collaboration between Anthura and KeyGene. The agreement enables both companies to effectively combine forces to create attractive novel traits and varieties faster as well as further increase efficiencies in the breeding operation.

Anthura, supplying growers in over 70 countries, is constantly searching for innovative ways to develop and commercialize new varieties. Taking a long term view, with this agreement Anthura effectively responds to the changing needs of growers and consumers. KeyGene, having more than 15 years of experience in supporting clients in the ornamentals industry, is fully equipped to offer Anthura tailor-made innovations to meet their breeding needs. Technology innovations combined with knowledge of plant traits and crop improvement will strongly enhance Anthura's breeding programs.

"We are very excited to continue working with KeyGene, now even closer than before", said Mark van der Knaap, Managing Director of Anthura. "In combination with KeyGene's global leading position in molecular breeding & trait development in Ornamentals as well as in Vegetables and Field Crops, we are now optimally positioned to benefit from genomic technologies as a means to further grow our market position."

"We are honored by the trust that is placed in KeyGene," said Robert van Tuil, director business development of KeyGene. "We are confident that our open and long term collaboration will have a major impact on our ability to maximize the added value of KeyGene's innovative strength and will bring unconventional solutions for the breeding and business goals of Anthura."
