How do you celebrate a 60th anniversary?

Generous donations to 60 good causes, one for every year they've been in business. That's what they're doing to celebrate their 60th anniversary at ErfGoed, the international leader in the manufacturing and installation of cultivation floors. The staff was asked to suggest socially involved and idealistic organizations, and they enthusiastically took advantage of this opportunity.

Hugo Paans is grateful for the opportunities that ErfGoed made use of

On the first floor of the building, 60 years of ErfGoed history is displayed across 15 meters of photographs. ErfGoed started out as a manual labor company where the greenhouse soil was dug out at the end of the growing season. With the arrival of substrate, the focus shifted somewhat to the construction of sports fields such as tennis courts. Tennis courts require good drainage, firmness and flatness, factors that are also of great importance for pot plants. This eventually led to the development of the ErfGoedVloer. This cultivation floor is formed by a layer of porous rock that can be filled with water. Once the layer is full, the water will rise everywhere at once. When the crop has absorbed enough, the floor will drain again. Cock van Bommel, business development manager: "This development, this decisiveness, is what matters. You have to be able to respond and anticipate developments that the market needs. Moreover, the will to change must be in the DNA. Then you can work in a solution-oriented way. And that is what we are good at, it turns out."

Hugo Paans, director and owner of ErfGoed, says it's important to take good care of the planet: "The next generations must also be able to live well in this world. When we use the earth we also have to combine it with good stewardship. We offer a closed cultivation system where water is optimally reused. This cultivation system is a tool that allows us to conserve water."

Test results are discussed by Cock van Bommel and Hugo Paans in the laboratory.

Hugo takes good care of his staff. "ErfGoed doesn't have people, it's the people that make ErfGoed", he says. "After all, they are the ones who make the difference". He attaches great value to personal development and employees being able to fulfill their ambitions. In addition, he monitors the company's atmosphere and tasks, as responsibilities must be aligned correctly with competencies. He sees the workforce as a team of people that complement, strengthen and value each other. About 75 people work at ErfGoed every day. There is a low turnover among staff, and one-third has been working there for more than 12.5 years. "In these times this is something we really treasure", according to the ErfGoed director.
