Aleia Roses: New kid on the block in Spain

Aleia Roses. That's the name of the first Red Naomi grower in Spain. The company will grow the roses in a glass greenhouse. This 14.3 hectare project, known as Bionatur Roses, has been built over the last couple of months.

Red Naomi
Aleia Roses is a project of Luis Corella, who is already experienced in the international growing business thanks to his Mexican vegetable activities. He started working on the Aleia project in 2013. His goal was to grow what he calls "the most exclusive and distinguished rose in the world" by combining innovative Dutch technology with the best possible growing location.

That this greenhouse would be located in Spain, was not known from the start, Jose Maria Martinez de Haro says. He is the executive chairman of the new company. "Any location in Europe was possible, we just searched for the best growing conditions. The greenhouse is situated on an altitude of 1030 meters. The circumstances are ideal: sunny during the day and cool in the nights." A nearby river supplies the company with fresh water.

Aleia Roses plans to harvest 40,000,000 stems a year. The first plants were set last week and planting will continue in the next months. Mid 2017, the first A1 quality should be harvested.

All production will be sold via FloraHolland. It's a 20 hour drive from the greenhouse to Aalsmeer, where full production will be sold via the clock. "The goal is not quantity, but quality of our production so in the future we hope to sell directly", De Haro says. "Therefore we have to earn the confidence of the customer first."
