D.H.M.I and Lannes & Fils introduce the Breeder Protector

Breeders ‘put a ring on it’ to protect their plants

"The major difference between this product and license labels is, that it can’t start a life of its own after using it.” The product in question is a little plastic ring named Breeder Protector and is developed by D.H.M.I together with Lannes & Fils. In the category Non-Plant Product of the 2014 Innovert Competition (France – Salon du Végétal) it was awarded and won the Silver Medal. In 2019, it will be introduced at IPM Essen (DHMI – Hall 2 – Stand B40) as a very useful innovation, patented in the EU (patent number is pending).

Breeder Protector™

"Breeder Protector means a little plastic ring", explains Erick Ciraud of D.H.M.I. breeding company by Lannes. Developed by D.H.M.I together with Lannes & Fils this ring has several purposes. "It has quite the same function as the labels: focusing on valuing up and identifying the product, in this case, Diamantina range, informing the consumer and by the way enabling observation of potential illegal propagation or eventual fraudulent activities. It proves also that the growers paid the license."

The major difference to license labels is, that the Breeder Protector ring can’t start a life of its own after using it. "This tiny printed ring is placed by the propagator who sticks unrooted cuttings through it into the plug. Coded colors are different on each side of the ring: one face has relevant data (trademark and patent number); on the other side, other data being freely added such as a consumer website. It is attached to the plant and has a special design every season. On the long run retailers get aware of the presence of Breeder Protector rings. When they order Diamantina they can check if they get true Diamantina from controlled production."

Breeder Protector™

"True and original plants have a Breeder Protector." Diamantina is the first product range to carry the Breeder Protector: through partnerships this innovation is now accessible to all breeders and for a wide range of products. "Its life duration being of 3-4 years outdoor, makes it especially interesting for tree and shrubs nursery products. The EU patent is published and patent number will be soon released."
