UK: Hort Science Live – practical showcase of latest science

Hort Science Live, a new workshop-led event created by ICL and Bayer, will provide hands-on opportunities to interact with leading specialists in growing media, plant nutrition and plant protection.

“Run in association with the Horticultural Trades Association (HTA), Hort Science Live has been designed to showcase the latest research, developments and technological innovations in these vital areas of plant production,” says Adam Ferjani, ICL marketing communications manager. “Focusing very much on practical application, we will show growers how to apply the latest techniques and technologies to benefit their own production.”

Hort Science Live 2017 will cover growing media fundamentals such as the importance of air fill porosity (AFP) and how this can be best manipulated to create tailored mixes as well as the latest innovations in wetting agents and biological products.

The precision nutrition workshops will demonstrate how to improve overall efficiency, by pre-empting deficiency problems and using the latest generation fertilizers. In addition, there will be a practical demonstration showing how to accurately calibrate a water-powered fertilizer injector.

The innovations in plant protection sessions will include a highly topical look at Xylella fastidiosa - the quarantine disease posing a major threat to UK nursery stock – including how to spot early signs of the pathogen, an overview of current IPM solutions plus the latest from Bayer on the control of the ever-challenging vine weevil.

Hort Science Live 2017 will be held at the Bransford Webbs Plant Company, at Bransford, Worcester, on Thursday, 20 July. This ornamentals plant nursery won the 2016 Ornamentals Grower of the Year award.

Tickets for Hort Science Live 2017 cost £20 – availability is limited.
