Preview FlowerTrials 2017: Novelties highlighted

At the FlowerTrials 2017, no less than 59 breeding companies will present their newest varieties in pot- and bedding plants, as well as the latest innovations and concepts. At 32 locations, spread across three regions (Aalsmeer and the Westland region in the Netherlands, and Rhineland-Westphalia in Germany), the event will take place from June 13-16 and can be visited daily from 08:00 till 18:00 (Friday till 16:00).

Leading up to the event, we will present a highlight of each participating company in a series of five articles. In this first edition, will focus on 15 of the participating companies in the Aalsmeer region: MNP, Danziger, Dalina Genetics, De Zonnebloem Jonge Planten, Hishtil, Morel Diffusion, ABZ Seeds, Floricultura, Panamerican Seed, Benary, Butterfly Garden, Cohen, Evanthia, Floranova, and Florist.

But before presenting the highlights, some changes, in regards to last year's edition, need to be presented first. First of all, seven breeding companies have been added to the list of official exhibitors under the FlowerTrials flag for 2017, namely; Hendriks Young Plants, Greenworks and Varinova will present their products in the Westland region, Cultivaris, Dalina Genetics and De Zonnebloem Jonge Planten in the Aalsmeer region and Ebbing-Lohaus in the Rheinland Westfalen region. Besides that, the Dümmen Orange location moved within the Westland region, from De Lier to Naaldwijk.


Panamerican Seed - Viola Sorbet XP



New Deep Orange is, according PanamericanSeed, the deepest orange-flowered viola on the market; uniform, controlled plants for ease of production. "Superior to competing varieties in colour, timing, uniformity." It is part of the Sorbet XP series, that needs fewer PGRs, with superior holdability and less waste. F1 vigour assures greater germination, earliness and excellent plug and garden performance. Well-suited to Spring and Autumn packs and 3.5-in./9-cm pots.


Danziger - Amore Purple Petunia


Amore Purple Heart is a new member to the AMORE series of Danziger, that is recognized by their heart-shapes that decorate every flower. It has a long-lasting flowering period and a strong and uniform semi-trailing habit.


Hishtil - Funtastick Calibrachoa


Funtastick Calibrachoa is a new high stem, grafted, ornamental Calibrachoa. This plant is created by grafting herbaceous ornamental Calibrachoa having a short height and bushy growth habit on a rootstock containing high-single stem.

Dalina Genetics - Gentiana "Blue Hart"


Dalina Genetics will present their 2016 'Glazen Tulp' winner Gentiana "Blue Hart". This Gentiana is part of the Rocky Diamond series and has long-lasting flowers. After flowering they turn into a leaf-like structure and are hardly visible anymore.


Floricultura - Phalaenopsis 'Silver Light'


Phalaenopsis 'Silver Light' has large flowers. "With its flower diameter of 12 cm this variety is the showpiece of Floricultura’s white range." The well-stacked leaves make it easy for this variety to produce spikes.


De Zonnebloem Jonge Planten - Mandevilla Bloom Bells Yellow


Mandevilla Bloom Bells Yellow is an early flowering plant and its big, dark yellow flowers which remain on the plant for a long time make it a good addition to this series which was only available as red and pink cultivars until now.


Morel Diffusion - 15 new Cyclamen


Also new varieties are on display at French cyclamen breeder Morel Diffusion. This year, they will present 15 new varieties for the 2017-2018 season.

ABZ Seeds - Delizz

The Delizz is a new concept of ABZ Seeds. With a Delizz® strawberry plant, a consumer can grow their own strawberries at home in an easy way. When they have purchased a Delizz plant, the first red fruit is ready to be picked. With a couple of tips, they can easily grow more of their own delicious strawberries. The presentation of Delizz with a specially selected Tamara pot in a fancy purple colour and a colourful transport sheet and pot cover makes it a good gift to someone you love. In 2016 strawberry Delizz won the title of National Winner at All America Selections (AAS). Delizz is the first ever strawberry plant to receive this prestigious prize, due to its outstanding outdoor performance in many climate zones of North America.


MNP - Sundaville Apricot



De Sundaville Apricot is a Classic Sundaville in a new bright orange color; Apricot. This variety has the same distinctive characteristics as the Sundaville varieties from the Classic range. It has large, very long lasting, 9 cm apricot coloured flowers with a darker, orange-yellow heart. It boasts a good branching habit, blooms very early and flowers continuously. Sundaville Apricot plants are best grown in 15 and 17 cm pots with support.

 
Benary - Nonstop Joy Mocca White


This Begonia tuberhybrida F1 Nonstop Joy Mocca White is a new introduction of German Breeder Benary. The Joy Mocca is a semi-trailing begonia from seed, seems to be easy to grow, sleeve and ship.


Butterfly garden - Lavandula angustifolia ‘Endless Joy’


Lavandula angustifolia ‘Endless Joy’ is a hardy, very compact and uniformed crop. It produces many branches and has a lot of deep-coloured flowers and the flowering seems to be long lasting.


Cohen - Bacopa Secrets Bomba Blue Sky


Bacopa Secrets Bomba Blue Sky is Cohen's first introduction in season 2016-2017.
Bred by Breier in Israel exclusively for Cohen and has a large flower size that seems to be comparable to that of the Calibrachoa. Besides that it has good basal branching and is easy to root.


Evanthia - Helianthus 'Sunsation Yellow F1'


The Sunsation Yellow has a compact growth and a short cultivation period. The flowers are dark yellow and pollen-free and the foliage is dark green. This variety won the prestigious AGM Award in the RHS plant trials in the UK, coming out best in class in a comparison trial involving more than 100 sunflower cultivars.


Floranova - Cosmos Apollo


Cosmos Apollo is a series that consists of 3 colors and one bicolor mix. It is a compact and well branched plant with overlapping petals, which creates a bigger flower.


Florist - Garvinea Sweet Love

Garvinea Sweet Love is the first red color in Florist's Sweet series. Sweet Love blooms from early spring until the first frost and has a high resistance to pests and diseases.
