US (PA): Residents enjoy outdoors at medical center greenhouse

A new greenhouse at the Fulton County Medical Center is getting long term care residents back into the outdoors for a good cause.

At the Lakey Greenhouse, resident Helen Long said she enjoys just being outside of the hospital

"I enjoy it, and I enjoy the outdoors," said Helen Long, resident. “I love playing in the mud.”

Long is one of about 15 long-term care residents at Fulton County Medical Center that help plant flowers and grow vegetables for the greenhouse.

“We are in a rural area, and many of them were living on farms or grew up on farms,” said Laura Mellott, Greenhouse Manager. “So, it’s really nice to be able to give them a chance to get them back into doing something that they love and enjoy.”

The plants created by the residents are up for sale on Thursday at the medical center.
