Dutch Flower Group launches new sustainable construction

Recently, the ceremonial first pile was driven for the new 10,000 m2 building that will be used as processing space next to the existing Bloom and Greenex building at the Betula in De Kwakel, The Netherlands.

At the construction, the highest sustainability requirements are being used. Examples include: electricity generated by solar panels on the roof, heating through residual heat from the coolers, energy-saving LED lighting, thermal insulation glass for offices, highly insulating dock doors, and efficient electronic control of the lights in the whole building.

"After an intense period of preparation and a search for sustainable materials, it is now happening; we are going to build! Great that we can achieve all this in one building. Together with my colleagues, the involved companies and the project developers, we are building our most sustainable project ever. It's really the crowning achievement," mentions Linda Boekestein, the proud Project Manager of DFG.

Construction activities are expected to be completed by the end of 2017. This new building will include, among other things, the processing of hand-bound bouquets and plants for retail chains.
