Two biomass power plants are currently under construction in Bleiswijk, the Netherlands: one at plant nursery Leo Ammerlaan and one at Bunnik Plant. The two sustainable energy sources, each with a capacity of 12.5 Megawatts, will soon deliver bio-heat to greenhouse horticulture companies in the municipality Lansingerland.
Spectacle
In greenhouse horticulture every square meter is used, reports Lansingerland Municipality. So there was not much room for a 'standard installation' (digging trenches and laying pipes). For this piping route, therefore, it was decided to lay the largest part of the route via four guided horizontal drillings (GHD). These drillings were carried out in December last year. What is special about this is that the pipes pass underneath the foundation of a viaduct of the High Speed Line (HSL). View the installation from above in this video:
Schedule
Hopefully, the weather conditions will permit the drilling for the other two pipes in the coming weeks (below 5 degrees Celsius will make this more difficult), so that by the end of the year about 50% of the construction of the new heating network will be ready. The works will continue until the end of March 2018. Next year, the first greenhouse horticulture companies will be connected to the more sustainable bio-heat. With these projects, a total of approximately 14.5 million m3 of natural gas will be saved annually.
