IPM comes to an end

The IPM trade fair comes to an end today, and this year's edition again proved its international character. Not only European horticulturists, but also many international professionals from the horticultural industry found their way to the show. On the other hand, the amount of technical novelties seemed not very high. Are suppliers getting lazy?

While breeders and growers create novelties continuously, the amount of 'NEW' signs in the technique halls 3 and 7 weren't that easy to find. Of course many LED- and Vertical Farm suppliers brought out shiny products, but other than that the amount of innovative greenhouse designs was pretty low.

On Monday, however we will show you all the novelties we could find - and many many many more photos. A preview can be found here.

M. van Veen did show a novelty: the new Euforbia Milli Cardinal, with bigger flowers than the regular euforbia.

Renewed cooperation with Landesverband Gartenbau NRW
The international green sector has been meeting at Messe Essen since January 23. Around 1,600 exhibitors from almost 50 countries are presenting their innovations and new products at IPM Essen, the world's largest horticultural trade fair – reason enough to renew the cooperation agreement between Messe Essen and the Landesverband Gartenbau NRW. The trade fair organiser and most important regional association for horticulture in Germany intend to work together to shape the future of the world's leading trade fair until 2030.

Loyalty
Oliver P. Kuhrt, CEO of Messe Essen, explains: "Landesverband Gartenbau Nordrhein-Westfalen has been an important and loyal partner at our side since the beginning of IPM Essen in 1983. Without them, IPM Essen would not be what it is today: the world's leading trade fair for horticulture. We are therefore particularly pleased that we are extending our cooperation until 2030." As the strongest regional association in Germany, Landesverband Gartenbau NordrheinWestfalen e. V. represents 3,100 businesses from all sectors with around 50,000 employees. Many of the plants produced in NRW are traded worldwide. Kuhrt goes on to say that the association is therefore an indispensable part of IPM Essen. "The continuation of our cooperation clearly underlines the importance of our work for an entire industry. Landesverband Gartenbau NRW and IPM Essen are pursuing a common goal in this process: We want to drive the green sector forward, be its engine and driving force,” says Eva Kähler-Theuerkauf, President of Landesverband Gartenbau NRW and Chairwoman of the IPM Advisory Board.

Tabletensia special prize winner at IPM 2018
The jury report: The Tabletensia ‘Saxtabbar’ is convincing due to its special growth form. It is flat and thus outstandingly suitable for planting in bowls and as attractive table decorations. Due to its rich branching and the rich stock of blossoms, it looks like a bouquet of flowers. You can truly imagine a table dance which it performs well into the autumn with attractive colouring on the tables in the garden, on the terrace and in the house: A promising extension to the wide spectrum of hydrangeas.
