Looking for that special flower

Muller Seeds continually analyzes the market: what do consumers want today, but especially what will they be interested in tomorrow? We spoke to director Wim Zandwijk about trends and popular new varieties.

Aster
A flower that is currently gaining in popularity is the aster. Muller sells a wide range of aster seeds, but the Bonita varieties stand out. This is particularly evident from the Eastern European market. "The flowers are usually 50 centimeters long, have double flowers, a pompon shape and the available six colors combine very nicely. It would not be surprising if these flowers also become popular in other countries, even to the point that they cause the more traditional and softer colors to be pushed into the background."

Double sunflower
The sunflower is also selling really well at the moment. The flower looks great in the garden and on the windowsill, can be used in bouquets and has a multitude of flower shapes. "Take the Gemini Summer", continues Wim. "It grows to a height of 1.5 m, from seed to flower in about 60-70 days, which is relatively fast. The double flower is unique and really makes it stand out. However, it is no more expensive to grow than the standard varieties, and ultimately costs the same for the consumer."

"We also have two nice varieties of potted sun flowers, the Bert and the Sunbright Kids, which are both 25cm high. These flowers really bring the summer to your home or garden, and are getting really popular among our customers."

Gemini Summer

Calla
Finally, Wim wants to mention the calla. "We offer a special tropical series of the calla, which is nicely compact. Worldwide we also see that calla cultivation from seeds is on the rise."
