UK: Ashwood Nurseries win again

Ashwood Nurseries win again at the Royal Horticultural Society Chelsea Show with a display of Ashwood Hybrid Hellebores shown months after their normal flowering season. The Hybrids are the result of many years of breeding by Kevin Butcher at Ashwood.

The plants were kept in cold storage with several false starts of warming them up and cooling them down to get them to perfection for the show. Owner of Ashwood John Massey VMH had many sleepless nights but the result was the award of a Gold Medal and the Presidents Award, a repeat of the awards John received two years earlier with a similar display of Hepaticas, another line he specialises in. Both subjects are never likely to be repeated at any show in the future.
