Flower bulb trade between NL and South America going strong

South America plays an important role in the international flower bulb market. In countries such as Chile and Colombia, large numbers of bulbs are produced. A major portion of these bulbs are bought, transported, stored, prepared, distributed and often also grown by Dutch companies.

Mark Woertman of Denkers; Léontine Crisson, agricultural attaché in Argentina, Chile, Paraguay and Uruguay; and Veronika Paessler of Van den Bos Flowerbulbs, the host.

It's not surprising then that customers and stakeholders came from far and wide to the Dutch Lily Days recently. A special guest was Léontine Crisson, agricultural attaché in Argentina, Chile, Paraguay and Uruguay. At the invitation of Denkers, one of the world's largest transporters in the international bulb trade, she was in the Netherlands to learn more.

José de Silva is a big customer of Van den Bos from Argentina. Veronika Paessler, agricultural attaché Léontine Crisson and Jan Ruts, representative of Van den Bos in South America.

Léontine: "We can help with accreditation in Chile. I regularly go to Chile, where I talk to Denkers about flower bulbs, etc. Since 2014, Denkers has been active in Chile, and it has an important share in bulb import and export in Chile. Together with several other producers and logistics companies they are constantly working to keep the quality of the products in the chain as optimal as possible."

The contact with the agricultural attaché came about thanks to a visit that Mark Woertman recently paid to the embassy in Chile. The contacts are based on a shared interest. When the embassy can facilitate trade as much as possible and remove all conceivable trade barriers, both parties are happy.

On June 15 the Latin America Business Dialogue took place in The Hague. The underlying idea is to make Dutch companies more familiar with the market in Latin America. More information about this afternoon can be found here (in Dutch).
