UK: Olive tree, July Garden Plant of the Month, communication withdrawn

The Flower Council have decided to remove all communication around the olive tree, which was chosen as a garden plant in July for 2018.

Bacteria Xylella
The reason for this decision is the fact that there are associated risks with Xylella bacteria that affects some olive trees and imports can have a negative impact. At the time of selecting the garden plants of the month over a year ago, specialists thought the problem around this bacteria would not be an issue this year, but the industry finds that the risks of contamination is still very present and therefore unfavourable for the promotion around this species.

Communication to be removed
The Flower Council has withdrawn and removed all communications around the olive tree, both towards the consumer on the Thejoyofplants.co.uk platform, as well as sector promotions on corporate platform flowercouncil.co.uk.
