South African Protea is on a roll

The Western Cape in South Africa is one of the most beautiful places in the world and with that comes unique fauna and flora. In Mosselbay, a town in the heart of the Western Cape Bay Flora is located. “We started in January 2018 so we are the new kid on the block”, Anna-Mart Halderman says. “It all started as a passion. Passion for the amazing fauna and flora of the Western Cape. Passion for our beautiful country and passion to make a difference. We source Proteas and Fynbos, plants that are only available in this region.”

Protea Cynavoides

“There is a steady and constant rise in the demand for Proteas, Ericas and Greens because of their uniqueness and durability.” Most popular flower is the Protea. “Actually in all their varieties. They are used for all kinds of occasions. Whether it is a formal wedding or a bunch of flowers from the corner street vendor. The Ericas and Greens, like Erica Deliciosa, Ruby Berzelia, Paleacea or Abrotanoides are often used in bouquets.

Protea Pink Ice

“The whole point behind Bay Flora is that it will only take you one email to find everything you need in the field of Western Cape South Africa produce. Our team is prepared to walk the extra mile for our clients. We have the widest variety of Proteas, Greens and Ericas available on our doorstep and if we don’t have it we will find it.

Protea Red Rex

Bay Flora exports their products to Europe, the United States and Asia. “The Netherlands is a big importer for us, even as clients from Miami. In Asia we give a lot of attention to China and Singapore. We are working very closely with our producers. Our main producer for Greens and Ericas has extended their Berzelia section with 200ha and that is starting to flower now. Research in the product in a cultivated environment and in natural state is an ongoing commitment.”
