OZ Export vendors visit Qualily

"Not many lilies available for All Saints"

Last week a small delegation of OZ Export vendors joined Lily buyer Colin Star during his visit to Qualily. The reason was obvious: this grower of varieties like Zambesi and Brindisi is a top seller to their foreign markets.

Raymond Vijverberg proudly shows his greenhouse

One of the Qualily owners, Raymond Vijverberg, took his time to show his greenhouse in Maasdijk, the Netherlands. This is one of four greenhouses they own. Raymond explained all about Qualily’s cultivation methods.

Harvesting today’s demand for Zambesi

The fresh oriental Zambesi Lilies were being harvested and bunched in the middle section of the greenhouse and transported by conveyor belt to the warehouse. This is where they are checked again on quality and number of flower buds, sleeved and put on water buckets. The next step is to prepare them for transportation to their own distribution hub. The speed of this process allows customers to order same day delivery to the warehouse in Aalsmeer.

Quality control and sleeving in one

Production for All Saints
An indoor Lily is bred in 9 to 16 weeks, basically depending on the weather conditions. Despite the fact that the flowers of Qualily are grown in a greenhouse, many sun hours speed up the growing process tremendously. Holland had a good late summer this year, and therefore all flower production sped up a little too fast.

Lily Dalian ready for dispatch

This means that for the All Saints (Novemer 1) week Qualily and other Lily growers will not have a large offer of Lilies available.
