Dutch retail chain Jumbo MPS certified

The flowers and plants of Dutch supermarket giant Jumbo have attained the MPS Florimarkt GTP certification mark. That means that they are grown with respect for people and nature and meet all requirements in terms of sustainability, fair trade, quality and that Jumbo will provide information about the origin of its products.

Consumers are choosing ever more knowingly for fair and sustainable products. To this purpose MPS is developing certifications. These do not only provide information about how sustainable a bouquet or plant is produced, but also how an organization is structured socially. Also the way purchasing, production and trade is organized by companies is checked so that good product quality is ensured, and extensive attention to the purchase of sustainable products is given. The entire chain is examined: from quality control and inventory management up to arrangements with suppliers about sustainable production and fair trade.

"As a family company we at Jumbo consider quality and sustainability important, and of course that includes our flower and plant department. That's why we had this department certified by MPS since 2015," said Ed van de Weerd, Commercial Director of Jumbo Supermarkets. "We are proud that we have obtained the certification mark this year."
