NL: A second life for the sandwich panel

Throughout the whole sector, Hans van der Meijs LLC builds cold storage rooms. When it comes to these storage rooms people mainly look at sustainable production and installation, for this used panels and cooling installation are being reused a lot when making the new cold storage rooms. People are also working on reducing their own carbon footprint which went down a lot last year with the installation of 250 solar panels on the roof. And to make sure that the people around the world know of all the new innovations, the website has now also been given a full make-over.

A second life for the sandwich panel
Maybe the most appealing ‘story’ of Van der Meijs in the last couple of years is the frequent re-using of the sandwich panels. “We recently ran a few big projects on which we were able to use the used panels to their fullest”, says Hans van der Meijs. “We try to make that combination happen as much as possible.” The used panels are almost always re-usable for the ceiling, in which case the now lesser looking side is facing outside and the possible blemishes can hardly be seen due to the distance from the floor to the ceiling. When we do use new panels they are most likely the ones that are prominently on display.”

Besides this, the people are not fazed by the idea of taking on entirely new building projects. “For instance at Wetering Potlilium we recently built a cold storage room made out of new panels and a used reconditioned cooling installation.”

A look into the industrial hall
Niteflix has neatly shown the business being conducted in the industrial hall in the form of a video. This company, specialized in the making company videos, visited Hans van der Meijs and talked to the entrepreneur about the production and installation process. In the video Hans, among other things, tells about the evolving client register which (‘luckily’) still exists of mainly Dutch-based companies. We also learn that demand for cold storage rooms does not only come from growers but from a diverse range of companies in a variety of sectors.

“Innovating”, declares Hans, “is something we do as much of as we can and that is something we are proud to show. With the installment of solar panels we are, as far as energy is concerned, self-sufficient. Last year we have installed a traveling crane bridge in our industrial hall so we can unload the incoming new panels from trucks fast and without damaging them. Recently we made the news with the introduction of the bioclimate chamber, a sustainable solution to cooling biological crop protection where the chamber can be equipped in a way that it uses the cooling unit of an existing cooling chamber (which saves a lot of money). We have enough work, grow a little each year and have,” just as Hans says in the previously mentioned video, “a fun and motivated team. Recently our renewed website went online and I would like to say: come take a look!”
