Dalat Hasfarm is walking the sustainability talk with concrete actions in three areas: Circular economy, carbon footprint, and limiting chemical usage.
Circular economy
Like many other horticultural companies, Dalat Hasfarm uses eco-friendly packaging and recycled plastic pots. However, Hasfarm goes the extra mile by using only collected rainwater and 100% reused compost and potting soil. On top of that, Dalat Hasfarm uses coco coir, a renewable waste product from coconut production that is completely clean, organic, and water-efficient.
Carbon footprint
Solar panels on farms are not an unusual sight. Dalat Hasfarm also makes good use of the many hours of sunlight that the Vietnamese and Indonesian climate provides. Furthermore, for some crops, greenhouses need to be heated. Hasfarm changed from using fossil fuels to heat pumps for heating. Most importantly, over 90% of the exported flowers are shipped overseas. Sea freight reduces carbon emissions by over 80%. Dalat Hasfarm has shipped over 20,000 containers over the past 20 years!
Limiting chemical usage
Pesticides can harm the environment and reduce biodiversity. Dalat Hasfarm reduced the use of pesticides by 80% and used it's own developed, natural pesticides like predatory insects and beneficial fungi. In this way, Hasfarm delivers flowers that are beautiful, clean, and safe.
