For a couple of months, Hortilife’s logo has been visible on a building at Terra Park Centenario, in Queretaro, Mexico. Hortilife's official opening will take place on March 11, the day before GreenTech Americas.
“The first containers with materials are expected before the exhibition,” says Pieter-Jan Overkamp. He will travel to Mexico for the opening and exhibition and will temporarily join his locally-based Dutch colleague, Jordin van Weert. “Three containers of PVC materials are also on the way," he adds.

Local stock
According to Pieter-Jan, the first shipment will allow Hortilife to stock up for the local Mexican facility (including eight Vortex nanobubble units and two irrigation units). He says: “We often hear that customers would like to purchase our units if they were already available in the local area. Exporting from the Netherlands sometimes took them too long. That's why we're happy to start supplying such units from our local stock.”
In addition to stock for water technology, Hortilife Mexico plans to stock materials for Sercom's climate computers. In this market, Hortilife has a partnership with Sercom, which will be continued after the move to Mexico. The new branch's opening is part of the supplier's horticultural technology expansion in Latin America.
Local service
In the Mexican market, Hortilife has realized its first projects. One of them is the 5-hectare renovation project for tomato cultivation in Chihuahua. Pieter-Jan says: “What makes this project special is that we have built a bio-combustion facility for nutshell burning.”
Initially, Hortilife was present in Eastern European countries, among which Ukraine. Pieter-Jan elaborates: “There we have gained a lot of experience on how to locally set up service units in other markets. We set up service units locally in cooperation with local service partners. Also, in Mexico, we will work with local partners. Since August, our colleague Jordin has been based in Mexico, and he is fully engaged with visiting customers.”
In the future, Pieter-Jan would like to set up a technical service in Mexico. However, he is currently waiting for the first shipments. Hortilife will be present at the exhibition at booth 656.
