"AIPH is thrilled to welcome such a prominent group of Jurors," says Mr. Tim Briercliffe, Secretary General, AIPH. "The members of the 2024 Jury embody the joint vision of the inspiring network of organizations leading the global green city movement, many of whom AIPH is proud to call partners, and also exemplify a group of passionate individuals who are champions for the power of plants and nature."

Entries for the AIPH World Green City Awards are judged in a two-stage process. Stage 1, the review and scoring by a Technical Panel of 28 experts from around the world, recently concluded with the announcement of the 21 Finalists at the AIPH Green City Conference on March 5, 2024, in Doha, Qatar. The list of Finalists, comprising the highest-scoring 3 entries in each of the 7 categories, has now been delivered to the Jury for the second and final stage of judging.

Following an independent assessment period, the Jury will vote to select 7 category winners and then a Grand Winner from the list of 7 category winners. The Jury will also vote to accept the nominations by the Technical Panel for Certificate of Merit recipients: these are entries that did not score highly enough to be Finalists but which showcase a particularly innovative or inspiring feature, characteristic, or approach that is worthy of recognition and has the potential for replicability. The Certificate of Merit recipients will be announced by AIPH in May/June 2024.

"Building on the legacy of the inaugural edition of the AIPH World Green City Awards, I am honored to be working with such a respected and distinguished group of Jurors whom I am confident all have the expertise required to support AIPH and partners in selecting the very best of the best," says Mr. Bill Hardy, Jury Chair and Chair, AIPH Green City Committee. "As the Jury assembles to complete yet another hugely successful edition of the AIPH World Green City Awards, we look forward to revealing the highly anticipated list of winners in due course."

While the Technical Panel scored the entries on their technical merit, members of the Jury are invited to consider the following provocation when casting their votes: "The Awards will help winning cities gain global recognition and achieve greater exposure– in light of this, which entry do you feel has the highest potential for transformational impact?"

"The AIPH World Green City Awards are a wonderful opportunity to recognize bold, impactful nature-based solutions to urban challenges and, in that way, to help spread the word and create positive change at scale. Let's green our cities!" Dr. Zhimin Wu, Director of Forestry, Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).

Designed to champion ambitious nature-oriented approaches to city design and operation, the AIPH World Green City Awards seek to celebrate public initiatives that harness the power of plants and nature to create greener, healthier, and more resilient urban environments. The awards recognize city-led innovation, achievement, and commitment to the globally recognized imperative to embrace nature-orientated solutions for common city problems and create an enabling environment to shape and nurture a strategic shift in city governance and planning.

"I am honored and excited to join the Jury for the AIPH World Green City Awards for a second time to celebrate the many fantastic local initiatives from around the world that promote and enable the transition to an urban world living in harmony with nature." Ms. Kobie Brand, Deputy Secretary General, ICLEI: Local Governments for Sustainability and Regional Director, ICLEI Africa.
