"Over 4 hectares of roses have been replanted, with fresh young plants replacing plants of almost twelve years of age", says sales manager Manuel Diez. Flores Verdes has been increasingly investing in the future, with a variety testing agreement with FlowerLink, a client of Flores Verdes based in Los Angeles, USA. These tests look at not only vase life and resistance of the plants, but also the popularity with retailers, and final consumers.
"While it is common knowledge that older plants produce less stems, and lack the quality found in younger stems, what we have found is that clients are more interested in the new varieties we are planting, such as “Dream in Peach”, “Golden Mustard”, or “Pompeii” from Plantec; Wasabi the new green from Schreurs, and “Deep Purple” from Dümmen Orange." This is going to bring their total number of varieties to 64. "We are bubbling with excitement to see how these extremely popular varieties are going to help our clients all over the world."
According to Diez, these varieties enable them to cover a wider spectrum of colors. "Both Dream in Peach and Pompeii are new colors for our assortment, and we were very impressed not only with the growth and strength of the plants, but also the unique colors of the roses themselves. Our partner in this endeavor, Flower Link gave us fantastic feedback such as the flight conditions, the type of bloom that we could expect, vaselife duration, and so on."
"With varieties such as Golden Mustard, which have had high demand all year around, we are definitely starting off with very high hopes for 2018."
