UK: New 2000 m2 for Bridge Nursery in Battlesbridge
The structure is something of a hybrid.
The walls look like any other Venlo-style greenhouse; but the roof is half-hooped, and the entire structure is covered with thermal screening material.
Horizontally, this breathable cloth prevents wind damage and lets some insects in. Vertically it keeps them out, reduces the internal ambient temperature and humidity, and increases air circulation.
Although the plants receive some rain, which penetrates the roof screen, it amounts to much less than it would if they were outside and had no protection.
Bridge Nursery grows high-quality ornamental perennials for garden centres and retail outlets in the United Kingdom.
Doug and Win Lodge began the family business in 1952. In 1979, they moved the nursery to its current site.
By then, David, their son, and his wife had joined the business. Steve and Pete, their sons, became partners in 1998 and 2005, respectively, and a few years later their wives began working there as well.
Bluey, their labradoodle, has been the supervisor since 2013.
