Significant success has been achieved within the scope of the "Development of New Rose Varieties by Hybridization Breeding Method" project carried out by the Ataturk Central Horticultural Research Institute. Within the scope of the project, a total of 13 new rose varieties have been developed so far and 6 of them have been registered and put into production.
Officials of the Ataturk Central Research Institute of Horticulture stated in their statement that this project aims to reduce foreign dependency on roses and said, "Our country has an important place in rose cultivation and rose export. However, a large part of the rose varieties used are imported. With this project, we will create our national rose garden. By developing our varieties, we aimed to reduce foreign dependency on roses and contribute to the country's economy."
Officials of the Ataturk Horticultural Central Research Institute stated that they believe that the registered rose varieties will attract great attention in the cut flowers and ornamental plants sector and that these varieties will also contribute to the country's rose exports.
Ataturk Horticulture Central Research Institute continues its efforts to develop new rose varieties. Institute officials stated that they aim to develop more national rose varieties and contribute to Turkish rose production in the coming years.
