It's the season of the Allium
Allium flowers
Some species of Allium have a flower that can measure up to 15 centimeters in diameter. The plants itself can reach a height of 3 to 4 feet. An explosion of little flowers in the sphere-shaped flower is what makes the Allium so special. Other species are smaller and understated with tiny flowers in blue or purple. Ruigrok Flowerbulbs has selected a few to highlight the variety of this species.
Giant Alliums
The Giant Alliums, as the name says, is the largest variety of the Allium family. The ball shaped flowers come in different colors, ranging from magenta to lilac and white. They are very good for attracting butterflies and the Mont Blanc variety can even attract hummingbirds. Allium Ambassador, for example, has very dense, dark purple flowers.
Medium and Miniature Alliums
Smaller in size, but with bigger flowers these Alliums are very different from their big brothers in the Allium Giant family. They come in many happy colors such as yellow, pink and blue.
Extra benefits and facts
Alliums are very pest-proof and will withstand a lot of the common garden and park hazards such as deer and rodents and are thus a good way to keep these at distance. This late Spring to late Summer bloomer is a hardy flower which grows very well by itself as long as it is not planted in a spot that is very wet.
