Germany: What's new at IPM Essen 2018?

A major difference at this year's IPM Essen is the move of the Danish hall. Besides that, the hortivation is now integrated in the IPM Essen and a part of the New Messe Essen is ready and will be open to visit.

In just less than a week, the IPM Essen will be held in Essen, Germany. From January 23-26, 1,577 exhibitors from 45 countries will present their products and services at the Messe Essen. This four-day event is being organized for the 36th time, but all dyed-in-the-wool visitors need to take into account some differences this year.

Danish hall moved
When looking at the map of the exhibition area, one will probably miss hall 5, which has been the Danish hall for many years. As the Messe Essen is being renovated, some areas are not ready, like hall 5. The nearly 100 Danish exhibitors will therefore be exhibiting in the temporary Hall 14 and the foyer of the Grugahalle. These halls together cover a smaller area than that of 'the old' hall 5 and the exhibitors are therefore forced to present their products in smaller booths. Danish rose breeding company Roses Forever, used to have a large 66m2 booth for at the same location for 25 years in a row, but is now exhibiting in hall 14 with a 15m2 booth. "The IPM Essen is one of the most important shows where we meet our existing and new growers and show them many of our potted mini and cut roses lines", says Rosa Eskelund, owner of the company. This year however, she needed to make careful decisions what to show (Click here to see what she will have on display this year).

hortivation
The hortivation by IPM Essen was held for the first time in June 2016 in Kalkar, Germany, but after intensive discussions of the IPM exhibitors, the idea of bringing production and trading closer together and presenting new selling strategies with strong turnovers has been rated as positive. So, it was decided to add a supplementary platform on the subject of POS concepts at IPM Essen.

hortivation

“Family Garden” is the main theme of the new trend hotspot hortivation. On an area spread over 800 square meters, innovative sales ideas for the green industry will be presented. The experiential world will be rounded out with a Speakers’ Corner, where stimulating talks will take place daily. hortivation is an innovation promoter, a pool for fresh ideas, an international networking platform and a look into the future – featuring a full range of IPM Essen product groups.

New Messe Essen
Visitors will already be given the chance to experience the new, open architecture at IPM ESSEN 2018, as parts of the New Messe Essen are already finished, ensuring a new sense of ease and well-being. From the east, the entrance to IPM ESSEN will be located through the foyer in hall 14. Clear passageways ensure a direct connection to the new 2,000 square metre glass foyer at Messehaus Ost and the other exhibition halls. In addition, the northern part of hall 9 has been completed. Here one will find a new single-storey hall that is flooded with daylight.
