NL: Mayor and aldermen have meeting in tulip field
The mayor and aldermen of the municipality of Noordoostpolder in a tulip field near Ens, The Netherlands. Mayor Aucke van der Werff: "In the coming weeks, the Noordoostpolder will once again turn into a colorful scenery, that attracts thousands of visitors. We annually celebrate the flowering time of the tulips with the Tulip Festival, which starts next Saturday. To mark this special period, we, as the local council, have decided to adjust our schedules and have a meeting at the edge of the tulip field."
Longest tulip route
During the Tulip Festival, from Saturday 21 April to 6 May, a lot of things will be organized around the 3,000 hectares of tulip fields. An important part is the Tulip route, Noordoostpolder has the longest continuous route, which runs over 120 kilometers past tulip fields and tulip bulb growers.
During this period many farmers work together to receive the thousands of visitors, together with other entrepreneurs and a large number of volunteers who help to organize all the activities.
A colorful decor
Yesterday morning the council were guests at tulip farmers Rob and Liesbeth Balk. The tulip varieties White princes and Purple princes formed the backdrop for the weekly council meeting.
