IFTEX sees launch of social performance portal CSR Africa

Hivos, True Price and Ufadhili Trust are launching CSR Africa (www.csrafrica.com), a social performance portal for the flori- and horticulture sector. The launch of the portal is on 6 June, at the International Flower Trade Expo in Nairobi, Kenya. Professionals in the flori- and horticultural sector can use it to learn, measure and improve their CSR performance.

Benefits
“We want to provide flower growers with a tool they can use to manage their social performance,” says Kristina Ullrich, who works at Hivos as private sector advocacy officer. “Customers increasingly ask for horticultural products that are produced in an environmentally friendly way and under good labour conditions, as evident in the growing demand for certified flowers.”

“Growers don’t know exactly how they are currently performing on sustainability, compared to the sector and where they can improve in the future, without reducing profits,” Ullrich continues. “This portal aims to provide growers with a quantitative social impact assessment and resources on opportunities to improve cost-effectiveness.”

Workshops
Interested parties can request a workshop provided by Ufadhili Trust to learn more about the use of the portal. Ufadhili Trust is an East African proponent of social responsibility. They support growers that want to improve their social performance with trainings, CSR programs and connections to local solution providers. The CSR portal is an initiative of Hivos, Ufadhili Trust and True Price.
