US (PA): PHS Flower Show attracts 245,000 despite snow

The 2017 PHS Philadelphia Flower Show, “Holland: Flowering the World,” which celebrated the floral beauty and innovative eco-design of the Netherlands, bloomed through a snowstorm and came to a close on the eve of spring.

More than 245,000 visitors admired the exhibits – including a show-stopping entrance with a floral canopy and the Dutch Ecodome spotlighting sustainable living - and were engaged by gardening presentations and interactive offerings throughout the nine-day show.

Highlights included the unveiling of a new tulip variety, “Philly Belle,” presented by the Dutch government in honor of the City of Philadelphia and the Flower Show.

“This year’s Flower Show was a wonderful success on so many levels,” said Matt Rader, PHS President. “Our designers embraced all aspects of Dutch culture and horticulture and created amazing displays. Thousands of volunteers came together to welcome our guests and make the Show run. Hundreds of new exhibitors entered our horticultural and artistic competitions. And our guests provided fantastic support for the Flower Show and the transformative work of PHS.”

Plans are already underway for the 2018 PHS Philadelphia Flower Show, “Wonders of Water,” which will celebrate the lifespring of our blue planet, on March 3 to 11, 2018, at the Pennsylvania Convention Center.
